Will the mark of the beast be microchips?

There has been many speculations made about this topic. This is a hard topic to provide certainty on because as you know all we have is scripture to inform us of coming events pertaining to the 2nd return of Christ, the tribulation period, and the establishment of Christ’s 1000 year reign on Earth. That being said, there are a few clear points of facts that we CAN find in scripture to tell us some important information. Here are those points:

Revelation 13:16-18

[Rev 13:16 NASB] And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead,

[Rev 13:17 NASB] and [he provides] that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, [either] the name of the beast or the number of his name.

[Rev 13:18 NASB] Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

  1. The marking of those who are followers of the antichrist will occur AFTER the Church has been raptured. Believers will not be present in physical form on the Earth when this event happens according to the timeline of God’s program.

  2. The actual mark itself will be the name of a man. (666) This number is the number of his name in Hebrew.

  3. It can’t be a microchip or any other internal “mark” that people speculate. More likely the mark will be a tattoo or marking of the skin that is permanent. The Greek word used in Revelations for mark is “Charagma” which means to “engrave”.

  4. Lastly, it’s possibly speculation or more opinion than fact, but taking what we know about he condition of the world and the atmosphere when this event occurs will be relatively low-tech. At this point in the timeline of the tribulation most of the world’s systems prior to the calamities set to happen will no longer be operational and the human race will be forced to retreat to a more rudimentary life style. Any advanced technology will most likely be scarce and not accessible.
